Populated since ancient times, Catania lived under the Greek domination alternating blooms with total destruction. Only during the Roman domination, the city settled entirely for a long time, as numerous excavations testify to us. But what threatened the city under the Greek domination of antiquity, reappeared in the Middle Ages and today the city bears the signs, we are talking about the volcano Etna.
After numerous earthquakes and destruction due to lava flows, the city was finally rebuilt in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in its current form in black lava stone.
